  • Best Ways To Choose The Right Course To Study In The University 2021

Best Ways To Choose The Right Course To Study In The University 2021

Choose The Right Course To Study

Do you want to know; How To Choose The Right Course To Study In The University in 2021? How can I choose the right course to study? This is the question that bothers some secondary school leavers. Luckily, I am going to give you the tips to choose the perfect course to study by asking yourself 4 simple questions!

Many undergraduates and graduates are regretting their choice of course today. They have failed to consider some essential facts while choosing a field of study. This is usually due to influence by parents, friends and family members.

As this decision is a sensitive one that determines the future of a man, I have decided to write this article today so that you will not make a decision with a regretful end.

If you are at the point of choosing a field of study, the following are the questions you should ask yourself.

How To Choose The Right Course To Study In The University

Do I Have Passion For This Course?

The word “PASSION”  is irresistible and should never be underestimated. Choosing a course without desire often leads to regret. If you have a passion for computer and the internet, why don’t you go for Computer science or engineering? Don’t be influenced by other people’s decision to go for Biology-related courses like medicine and surgery when you don’t like biology.

The passion for a course should be considered first because:

    1. Studying a course you have a passion for is usually easier.
    2. Studying a course you don’t have passion for is harder

Am I Capable To Study This Course?

Your ability is best known to you. Consider an average or below average student choosing Medicine and Surgery. What happens? It will be difficult for such a person to cope with the course requirement which may lead to failure. So, consider your ability, how much you can read, your retentive capability before choosing a course.

However, if you have been reading and you forget everything, my article on “9 most effective ways to read and remember everything” is the perfect guide for you.

How Much Do I Need To Study This Course?

“Money” is another important thing to consider while choosing a course.

Consider the standard of living of your parents or your sponsor. Courses that involve more practical and expensive such as Anatomy, Medicine, Animal-related Courses should not be chosen by someone with a low standard of living. It will affect you during your period of study.

What Is The Status Of This Course In The Economy?

I’ll break this question down into two parts:

    1. Is employment readily or rarely available?
    2. How much will I get paid after getting a job?

    A. Courses like medicine, pharmacy, law, chemical engineering, computer engineering, Mass communication, civil engineer, nursing e.t.c have high demand in the Labour market while Courses like religious study, music, zoology, sports, sociology and geography are not marketable.

So, choose Courses that are in high demand in the labour market.

    B. Everybody wants to earn some cool cash. Nobody wants to graduate and start earning #20,000-30,000 yearly. While some courses pay greatly, others are manageable.

Everybody wants to earn hundreds of thousands yearly.

However, the geographical location should also be considered because a course that pays in Nigeria may not pay in the USA. I believe if you can answer the questions above, you will make the best decision in choosing a course for study.

What You Shouldn't Do In ABUAD

You’re here: What You Should Not Do In ABUAD As A First-Year Student. Many ABUAD students after gaining admission proceed to make certain stupid mistakes. As a university student, there are What You Should Not Do In ABUAD As A First-Year Student.

Some of these silly mistakes are as a result of what they think was wise to do. These mistakes actually go a long way to affect them physically, psychologically, academically and even emotionally.

Some of these silly mistakes are as a result of what they think was wise to do. These mistakes actually go a long way to affect them physically, psychologically, academically and even emotionally. this is the more reason you need to know What You Should Not Do In ABUAD As A First-Year Student.

As a result, most of them end the session with  GP less than 3.0 on a scale of 5.0.

After three years of experience in the great University of Benin, I have been able to make an analysis of the stupid mistakes made by 100 Level students.

A Must Read! – See How ABUAD Sets Post Utme Questions

The mistakes “What You Should Not Do In ABUAD” discussed below are not exclusive to 100 level students. However, it has greater effects on them.

In addition, it is applicable to UNILAG, UNIBEN, UNIPORT, LASU, UI, ABSU, AAU, BUK, DELSU, FUTA, UNN, LU and other Nigerian university students.

What You Should Not Do In ABUAD As A First-Year Student 2021

MISTAKES MADE BY ABUAD STUDENTS IN THEIR YEAR ONE

    NO PROPER GUIDE

Many ABUAD students in their first year living as if they were the first persons to get admitted. Immediately they see their names on the admission list, they feel that is all.

They do not ask questions about the school, their department or course of study. They also fail to realize that it is what they have in their head that takes them ahead in school.

ABUAD is called UNISTRESS for nothing. Many ABUAD students are facing challenges in 200L as a result of what they didn’t know in 100L. For you not to experience the challenges your senior students are facing, you must know what they didn’t know.

You need to be properly guided on:

    • Resumption date
    • Clearance date
    • The required documents
    • Updates on course registration
    • ABUAD School Fees payment deadline
    • How ABUAD students should Jark
    • How exam questions are set
    • The university marking scheme
    • Tips to avoid missing scripts or Absent cases
    • Understanding ABUAD

READ: ABUAD Recommended Documents For Clearance

    SAYING YES TO DISTRACTIONS

As a 300 level Electrical and Electronic Engineering student, I can tell you that distraction is one of the main things advertised in ABUAD. The distractions come in different dimensions. This makes it more difficult to identify. In ABUAD, distractions come in the form of:

    • Social activities
    • Pretty girls and handsome boys
    • Parasitic relationship
    • Campus fellowship.

Prioritize your time so as to accomplish the tasks that produce the best result for your academics. You cannot stop distractions from coming your way. However, you can choose not to be distracted.

    SOCIAL LIFE

This mistake is not peculiar to ABUAD students. As a year one student, you want to make friends and associate with everyone you come across.
You want to attend all the shows to show that you have arrived. Have you forgotten that who you follow determines what follows you? it does.

ABUAD is a federal University and as a result, admits students from different tribes and background. This is a good reason why you should be selective in your choice of friends.

Many students are still regretting their choice of friends. Be warned!

    SKIPPING CLASSES

Who classes help? this is the language of ABUAD students. ABUAD Engineering students are mostly guilty of this. The truth is that classes may not help you in 100L.

However, if you cultivate this habit in 100L, it will be very difficult for you to leave. This will in-turn harm you in the second year of study. If a class isn’t helping you, then what is helping you in school?

WAITING FOR THE EXAM TO BE CLOSE

ABUAD calendar is currently moving at the speed of sound. If you don’t prepare with the speed of light, the exam date will come as a flash to you.

Many ABUAD students in their first year shake hands with procrastination, forgetting the fact that it has crippled their senior colleagues. ABUAD exams usually come as surprise to those who are not prepared; they are no jokes.  Start preparing as early as possible.

    PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO DRESSING

This is very common with Law and Management science students. They iron clothes for five hours daily and move round to impress the opposite sex.

You are in school to study and develop yourself, not for a beauty show. Don’t carry shinning body with an empty brain. Invest in your personality.

HANGING AROUND SCHOOL JUNCTION ALL NIGHT

Many 100L ABUAD students waste precious time on school junction doing things that do not add value to their life. There are better things to do than to waste time.

Remember, killing time is not murder but suicide.

    GOING TONIGHT CLASS IN GROUP

Hundred level ABUAD students are fond of going to night classes in groups. They spend more time discussing and less time studying. This impacts their academic performance negatively. Do not follow the crowd, tonight class. Make every second of your stay in the night class count.

    KNOW IT ALL ATTITUDE

Many hundred level ABUAD students feel they know it all. They feel too proud to ask questions. What you do not know is senior to you. Humble yourself and learn. In fact, if you are too proud, you become too heavy for people to carry along. Keep calm and learn soft work.

    NOT TAKING GST COURSES SERIOUS

Many ABUAD students do not take GST courses serious. For some, it is very easy so they can read it a day to the exam. For others, they hate GST with passion.

They believe that general studies courses do not add to CGPA has been thoroughly debunked. The fact remains that GST add to your GPA and should be taken very seriously. The rate at which 100L ABUAD students fail GST courses has assumed a gargantuan proportion.

In conclusion, you can’t graduate from ABUAD without passing all your General studies courses. The earlier you understand this, the better for you.

    NOT STAYING IN A HOSTEL

Personally, I will not advise any ABUAD 100L student to stay outside the hostel. Some of the benefits of staying in a hostel are:
    • Proximity to class
    • You get first-hand information
    • You get motivated the more
    • Enabling environment to mingle with students from other departments and faculties
    • Less comfort and distractions

    PLEASING EVERYONE

ABUAD hundred level students find it difficult to say no. They feel, “If I refuse to go out with him, what will he say”. Do not let the fear of what people would say make you swim in the ocean of indecision.

Know what you like and what you do not like. Also, know what works best for you. Be yourself….

BONUS On What You Should Not Do In ABUAD

    HALL TWO CAR PARK TRADE

Yes, I call it trade. This is the place where an exchange of girls take place. You see heavy Jeeps around every weekend to pick our girls. Most 100L boys and girls hang out around hall two car park throughout the night.

They want to belong and as a result, the senior students are taking them along. The fear of the hall 2 car park is the beginning of wisdom.

Don’t let people exchange you in Hall two. In the female hostel (Hall 2), there are many things. Be warned….

Well, I answered the most I could answer and I thought it was a wise idea to put this article down here so you all searching for “how to summarize a passage in jamb secret will get your answers below, continue reading!

Best Way To Answer Jamb Comprehension Passages 2021

The Reading Comprehension section of any examination contains Jamb comprehension passages and questions about the passages. The questions are about information that is stated or implied in the passage and about some of the specific words in the passages.

Reading Jamb comprehension Passages is beginning to get more exposure with every passing day. Employers and other major examination bodies have continued to make it compulsory for students to answer questions under comprehension passages in their exams and aptitude tests.

Some examiners make candidates answer questions under more than two long Jamb comprehension passages. The painful thing is that they give candidates very limited time to attempt the questions.

Now, Answering questions under comprehension passages in examinations is the challenge of so many students. As a matter of fact, students and Job seekers concede a lot of marks under Jamb comprehension passages in their exams and aptitude tests.

This poor performance in answering questions under comprehension passages is not only because the questions are sometimes too difficult but because the candidates don’t get enough time to go through the passages carefully.

If you have ever been in a situation where you are to answer more than one Jamb comprehension passages within a limited time, you will understand that tackling questions under comprehension passages require certain tactics.

Do you know that you can answer questions under comprehension passages with the speed of light in the exam hall? In fact, you can answer every question under Jamb comprehension passages without reading every line in the passage. That is what you are about to learn right now.

I will try to make this tutorial as simple as possible. I will also be linking to some of my recent articles to make sure that you don’t miss out on anything. Are you ready? Take a glass of water and let’s begin.

    The Structure of Compression Passages

The compression passage is usually made up of the main sentence and supporting sentences.

The main sentence caries the central Idea. If you have ever gone through a Sunday school manual, you will see a central truth written immediately after the topic.

The central truth summarizes the whole idea in the topic. That is to say, every other idea revolves around the central truth. The main sentence assumes the role of the central truth in a comprehension passage. Most times, the main sentence is presented in the first paragraph.

The supporting sentences consist of examples or illustrations to support the idea presented in the main sentence. Examiners make the supporting sentences so interesting that you might be tempted to take them for the main idea in the passage.

Observe the sample comprehension passage I adapted from MASS BAY COLLEGE Publication below:

INSTRUCTION: Two underlined sentences are followed by a question or statement. Read the sentences, and then choose the best
answer to the question or the best completion of the statement.

Anxious to ensure that America would depart from European traditions regarding religion and royalty, the early U.S.
could be described as a place that focused more on work than on the entertainment offered by spectacle and ceremony
    in the Old World.

However, national celebrations such as the lighting of the White House Christmas Tree and the ceremonies used to
swear in new federal officials give the American people some experiences that are based upon national tradition.

QUESTION: What does the second sentence do?

    1. It cancels the meaning of the first.
    2. It provides an example of the first sentence.
    3. It adds more detail to the first sentence.
    4. It offers an exception to the information given in the first sentence.

What’s your answer? Option C right… It is wrong. The correct answer is (B) It provides an example of the first sentence. The line below in the  passage confirms the answer “…such as the lighting of the White House Christmas Tree and the ceremonies…”

What Makes Comprehension Passages Seem Confusing

    • Tension
    • Vocabulary in comprehension.
    • Difficulty in understanding the meaning of the questions.
    • Time constraint
    • Use of figures of speech
    • Poor reading skill
    • Register used
    • Length of the Article
    Suggested Solution:
    • Improve your Vocabulary
    • Relax and try to overcome exam tension
    • Read and solve comprehensions, as many as possible
    • Solve passages from different fields of knowledge, like Science, Arts, Literature, Politics, Economics etc.
    • Stay focused
    • Don’t be moved by the length of the comprehension passage, in fact, the longer the passage is, the simpler.

What To Do Before The Examination Or Aptitude Test

    A. Improve Your Vocabulary

Why do you need to improve your vocabulary? Vocabulary means knowledge of words (the meaning of words). If you do not have a good vocabulary, you have to stop at every new word in the reading comprehension, and be puzzled what does it mean? So, when you don’t know the meaning of a word, it becomes very difficult to understand the gist in the Comprehension passage. Having a good vocabulary, makes you understand the reading  Comprehension much easier.

    How to improve your vocabulary?

Start reading in English, anything…….  Newspapers, stories, comics, textbooks….anything, that keeps you immersed in English. New words gradually sink into your subconscious mind and become familiar.

Keep a notebook, Note down the new words you learned today and revise them periodically.

Keep a target and a schedule to learn a certain number of new words every day. You are the better person to decide the number,… I am not. Do not deviate from the schedule at any cost.

    B. Solve Past Questions

By solving the previous papers you can understand and identify what kind of questions are appearing in the examination so that you will be mentally prepared for those kinds of questions.

    • Some questions are Simple
    • Some Draw Inferences
    • Some of the RC questions will ask you about a specific word from a paragraph
    • some are Parallel Reasoning Questions.

What To Do When You Are Given Comprehension Passages To Answer

The first thing you should do while reading a comprehension passage is to forget the length of the article and whatever you think you know concerning the subject or topic being discussed. If the passage says that Chelsea is the best football club in the world, don’t argue. Simply give them what they want and you are home and dry.

Like I said earlier, you can answer comprehension passages without actually reading everything in the passage. You may be asking how… Now let me explain.

Recall that the main sentence represents the complete Idea of the passage. If you are asked questions like “which of the following is true according to the passage”. The answer is always the main sentence.

Reading the passage to the end will make you confuse the examples and illustrations given for the main idea. Reading half of the first or last paragraph can provide the answer.

Another very important strategy in answering comprehension passages is to read each question and search for where the answer in the passage.

There is one trick that works for me. Anytime I come across a confusing question under comprehension passages, I analyze the option with the longest answer whether it makes sense. When it does, I quickly choose it.

See the Reading Comprehension passage below:

Read the passage below and then choose the best answer to the question from the list of lettered choices that follow.

Did you know that a half-gallon milk container holds about $50.00 in pennies? While all investment counsellors realize that we must accumulate money in order to save, most recommend different kinds of investments for people who are in different stages of life.

Older investors, those with limited funds to invest, or people with greater financial and family commitments, should take fewer risks. Younger, wealthier, and unmarried investors can afford to venture into the unknown.

Which of the following best describes the main idea of this passage?

    1. A penny saved is a penny earned
    2. Old people have the most money.
    3. Our ages and stage of life are part of what determines the investments that are best for us.
    4. Young people should concentrate on collecting pennies.

How To Answer Questions Under Jamb Comprehension Passages Effectively

    A. Constant Practice

In my article on how to fall in love with mathematics, I emphasized on the effectiveness of constant practice. When you constantly solve problems under Jamb comprehension passages, it just becomes very easy for you in the exam hall. Charity begins at home and not in the house.

Get as many questions under Jamb comprehension passages and attempt them. You should be able to justify any answer you  pick from the passage before accepting that it is actually correct.

“Normally, students who believe themselves weak in Reading Comprehension, are unwilling to practice. Most of them try to avoid solving at home. They make a lot of excuses.

But remember excuses don’t bring you success. Success won’t be available unless you confront your fears and weaknesses. Remember,  No-one, asks you “why didn’t you succeed in life?”  They only ask you “Did you succeed or not?”

    B. Use a pen while Going through the Passage

Do not read the Reading Comprehension like a movie novel. While going through the passage, your three body organs should act in collaboration.

    • Eyes
    • Hand
    • Brain

Make a habit of finding valuable keywords quickly and underline those keywords with a pen (If the rules permit, otherwise use a dark pencil).

    C. Find out words that are useless

If you carefully examine any Reading Comprehension passage, you can easily find out that there are so many words, phrases in the comprehension that are useless. That means even if we delete those words, phrases, the meaning of the Comprehension remains the same.

It is very tiresome and difficult, for me to make a list of those words and phrases and publish here. I just advise you to keep an eye on them and not to waste your precious time analyzing them.

    D. Comeback Later

When we don’t find an answer to a particular question, we usually tell ourselves “Okay, I will come back to it later”. This may be a good strategy to save time While leaving the difficult questions and solving the easier ones. But before going to another question just do one thing. Take your pencil and make a circle on your choice, which you feel correct at the present moment.

    Why?

Most of the instances when you come back to the question, you would have forgotten the Comprehension itself. So you have to read it again from the beginning. If the time permits, it’s won’t be a problem,…but if you don’t have enough time you can choose the earlier marked answer.

    E.   Don’t draw on outside knowledge.

Don’t make conclusions which are not in the comprehension. Though you are well aware of the topic mentioned in the Passage, You should not bring your own knowledge into the answers. Just stick to the Information given in the comprehension.

    F. Overcome panic:

While focusing on the passage, if you stare at the letters for a long time, your eyes feel uncomfortable. So, often close your eyes for a while, take a deep breath and start again.

Don’t get panicked by the difficulty of the questions. Be prepared for them.

    G.  Never  lose confidence:

By looking at the Comprehension, don’t let any thought of discouragement enter into your mind. Don’t feel depressed.
Always follow some tactics to motivate yourself

    H. Learn what works best for you:

Whatever strategies mentioned here are not hard and fast rules. They are flexible. If you feel they don’t work for you, then you can alter them to suit your needs. You are the judge.

Generally, standard reading comprehension has some unseen words(a word that you have not seen so far) that may make you afraid of the passage and the questions. But do not worry because most of the questions are not directly related to those words. Those words are just for making things look difficult!

Hot Tips To Quickly Answer Jamb Comprehension Passages

    1. First of all, read the first and last sentences of each paragraph carefully.  Then try to answer the questionings! Most of the questions can be answered just by knowing about these sentences.
    2. If the first and last sentences did not seem to help, try to find the key (important) words of each question and answers and then go to the passage again and try to find them. Most of the answers are in the sentence with that keyword or the sentences before or after it.
    3. Remember that there are some questions that can be answered even without looking at the passage carefully! Here is an example:
    • According to the passage we must take care of wild animals
    • Because they are increasing every day.
    • Because They have died since many years ago.
    • To be placed on the endangered species list
    • So that they do not finish in the future

Do you think you need to read the whole passage to answer this question??!

Questioning Methods In Jamb Comprehension Passages

There are different types of the questioning method employed by examiners in this delicate section. They are as follows:

    1. Authorial questioning method
    2. Periphrastic questioning method
    3. Logical questioning method
    4. Evaluation questioning method
    5. Contextual questioning method
    Authorial questioning method

Let’s begin with (Authorial questioning method): Questions under this questioning method require a candidate to provide answers based on the dictates of the passage…Examples:

    1. According to the writer…
    2. The passage suggests that…

For instance, if a passage talks about the prostitution of under-age girls and how it has helped shape their lives for good, and a question is asked that

“Prostitution is_____(a)good(b)bad…The answer is ‘good’ in accordance to passage ..you must not allow your personal opinion to influence your answer.

    Periphrastic questioning method

This is a “round-about’ questioning method, Whereby a candidate is required to simplify the question before answering it. Examples are:

    • Which of this is untrue? (i.e which of this is not true.)
    • Which of this is unimportant? (i.e which of this is not important).
    Logical questioning method

Here, the principle of logic is required to enable you to pick the right answer from the available options. A candidate needs to consider and gather concrete facts that are the paraphernalia of a certain context to enable him to arrive at the right answer.

    Evaluation questioning method

This requires a candidate to describe a person or object in the passage how the given subject does thing comes into the picture like, walks, talks and so on.

Example: In the given passage, Saka is described as a bully that beats girls like a two-headed goat and so on
    ..And You are asked:

    “According to the passage,Saka is a______(a)Two-headed goat (b)skilled fighter(c)bull(d)bully…
The answer is ‘bully’…because from the facts emanating from the passage the best word that can be used to describe Saka present in the options given is ‘bully’

    Contextual questioning method

In this section, you pick an answer based on how a particular word is being used in the passage. Some words have more than two meanings. These are called open-ended words. The implied meaning of the word at a time depends on the usage.

If I should ask a question, “why are you banking at me?”. Here, you should understand that we are not talking about the bank as a financial institution.

Sometimes you need to make a wild guess about a new word, taking into account the context (situation). By this, you will be able to understand the meaning of new words. If you feel necessary, you may check the meaning after reading the Comprehension.

what is stated or implied in this passage.

Experienced truck drivers often travel in a convoy–a group of trucks that are travelling to the same part of the country.
Convoys can help truckers to stay alert.

The author implies that professional long-distance truck drivers may avoid travelling alone because:

    1. They might drive too fast.
    2. They want to arrive before anyone else.
    3. Accidents happen more frequently to lone truck drivers than to car drivers who travel alone.
    4. Long-distance travel can cause drowsiness.

    2. Read the passage below and then choose the best answer to the question.

Huge beasts such as the dinosaur have never really become extinct. Mothra, a giant caterpillar who later becomes a moth, destroys Tokyo, and stars in the 1962 Japanese film named for him. Mothra is born, dies, and reborn regularly on classic movie channels. In Japan, Mothra is one of the most popular films ever made.

Mothra has survived the creation of more current scary creatures such as giant apes, extraterrestrial beings and swamp creatures. More than 30 years after his creation, Mothra still lives.

The main subject of the passage is:

    1. the reasons that fads do not endure
    2. the lasting appeal of Mothra
    3. the difficulty of marketing good horror movies
    4.  old models for creatures are still used because making new monsters is expensive.

    3. Two underlined sentences are followed by a question or statement. Read the sentences, and then choose the best answer to the question or the best completion of the statement.

Anxious to ensure that America would depart from European traditions regarding religion and royalty, the early U.S. could be described as a place that focused more on work than on the entertainment offered by the spectacle and ceremony in the Old World.

However, national celebrations such as the lighting of the White House Christmas Tree and the ceremonies used to swear in new federal officials give the American people some experiences that are based upon national tradition.

What does the second sentence do?

    1. It cancels the meaning of the first.
    2. It provides an example of the first sentence.
    3. It adds more detail to the first sentence.
    4. It offers an exception to the information given in the first sentence.

    4. Read the passage below and choose the best answer to the question.

The Earthʹs past climate–including temperature and elements in the atmosphere–has recently been studied by analyzing ice samples from Greenland and Antarctica.

The air bubbles in the ice have shown that, over the past 160,000 years, there has been a close correlation between temperature changes and level of natural greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane.

One recent analysis from Greenland showed that at the end of the last glacial period (when the great ice sheets began to retreat to their present position), temperatures in southern Greenland rose from 5 to 7 degrees in about 100 years.

Air bubbles are not the only method of determining characteristics of the Earthʹs ancient climate history. Analysis of dust layers from ancient volcanic activity is another such method; as is the study of ice cores, which interpret past solar activity that may have affected our climate.

    This passage states that:

    1. the Greenhouse effect is destroying the planet’s atmosphere.
    2. temperatures in Greenland have been unusually stable over the past 100 years.
    3. there is more than one kind of information that scientists can use to determine the characteristics of the
      Earthʹs early climate.
    4. solar energy is the wave of the future.

    5. Two passages are followed by a question or statement. Read the passages, then choose the best answer to the question or the best completion of the statement.

Before video cameras were widely used, home and business owners had to rely only on written reports and photos as a way to document their valuables for insurance purposes. This form of documentation was difficult for some insurance policyholders.

They found it was easy to lose lists, forget to add new items they purchased, or delete items they no longer had. As a result, these insurance inventories were often inaccurate.

While videotaping is not an option for every home or business owner, this kind of insurance documentation is helpful for some.

    How are these passages related?

    1. They repeat the same idea.
    2. They contradict one another.
    3. They compare two forms of written documentation.
    4. They present a problem and a solution.

    6. Two underlined sentences are followed by a question or a statement. Read the sentences, and then choose the best answer to the question or the best completion of the statement.

Public speaking is very different from everyday conversation. First of all, speeches are much more structured than a typical informal discussion.

    How are these sentences related?

    1. Sentence two offers support for the statement made in the first sentence.
    2. Sentence two contradicts the statement made in the first sentence.
    3. Sentence two shows an exception to the first sentence.
    4. Sentence two compares two kinds of speeches.

    7. Answer the question on the basis of what is stated or implied in these passages.

French physicist Charles Fabry found ozone gas in the atmosphere in 1913. At room temperature, ozone is a colourless
gas; it condenses to a dark blue liquid at -170 F.

At temperatures above the boiling point of water, 212 F, it decomposes. Ozone is all around us. After a thunderstorm, or around electrical equipment, ozone is often detected as a sharp odour.

Ozone is used as a strong oxidizing agent, a bleaching agent, and to sterilize drinking water. This gas is also highly reactive. For example, rubber insulation around a carʹs spark plug wires will need to be replaced eventually, due to the small amounts of ozone produced when electricity flows from the engine to the plug.

    These passages imply that:

    1. Ozone is the result of pollution.
    2. High ozone levels in the atmosphere will cause large numbers of people to buy new car batteries.
    3. Ozone has no practical uses.
    4. Ozone is a natural part of the Earthʹs atmosphere.

    8. Read the passages below and then choose the best answer to the question. Answer the question on the basis of
what is stated or implied in these passages

Many people who have come close to death from drowning, cardiac arrest or other causes have described near-death experiences–profound, subjective events that sometimes result in dramatic changes in values, beliefs, behaviour, and attitudes toward life and death.

These experiences often include a new clarity of thinking, a feeling of well being, a sense of being out of the body, and visions of bright light or mystical encounters. Such experiences have been reported by an estimated 30 to 40 per cent of hospital patients who were revived after coming close to death and about 5 per cent of adult Americans in a nationwide poll.

Near-death experiences have been explained as a response to a perceived threat of death (a psychological theory); as a result of biological states that accompany the process of dying (a physiological theory); and as a foretaste of an actual state of bliss after death (a transcendental theory).

The primary purpose of this passage is to:

    1. entertain
    2. persuade
    3. inform
    4. express disbelief in the afterlife

    9. Read the passage below and then choose the best answer to the question on the basis of what is stated or implied
    in these passages.

In most cases, little birds lay little eggs. The kiwi is an astonishing exception to this rule–it is a smallish bird that lays a big egg.

The kiwi, a flightless bird found in New Zealand, weighs about four pounds, and its egg weighs, believe it or not, about one pound.

That is one-fourth of the birdʹs body weight! If an ostrich laid an egg that was in the same proportion to the ostrich as the kiwi egg is to the kiwi, an ostrich egg would weigh a whopping seventy-five pounds instead of the usual three pounds.

Which statement below best describes the organizational method used in this passage?

    1. description
    2.  comparison/contrast
    3. chronological
    4. cause/effect

    10. Jazz is a peculiarly American contribution to Western culture. It was born out of the unique experience of American Blacks. Although its history is not entirely clear, jazz obviously has roots in the rhythm patterns and melodic lines of Africa, the tradition of Christian spirituals as sung by slave communities, the music of the blues as developed in the Deep South, and ragtime.

According to this passage, one can conclude that:

    1. Jazz is the sole Black contribution to Western culture.
    2. There is some difficulty tracing the origin of jazz.
    3. Jazz is most closely related to spiritual music.
    4. Jazz is not a complex musical form.

    11. Read the statements below and then choose the best answer to the question from the list of lettered choices that

    13. Answer the question based on what is stated or implied.

There are two kinds of jewellery that I do. There is commercial jewellery–class rings, necklaces, the kinds of things most people wear. I sell these items to meet my expenses for raw materials, supplies, and to make my living.

The other, more creative work I do makes me feel that I am developing as a craftsperson.

The author of this passage implies that:

    1. Artists are poor.
    2. There is no market for creative work.
    3. Commercial and creative work fulfils different needs for the artist.
    4. Rings and necklaces can not be creative.

    14. Some actors and rock stars are paid almost 100 times as much per year as school teachers. Not to downgrade the role of entertainment in our lives, but these people are not a valuable social resource that educators are. As another example, professional athletes earn vastly more than the nation’s firefighters.

Again, there is little doubt that the lower-paid group contributes a more vital function to communities. Finally, dress designers, who can make up to $50,000 for a gown, far out-earn police officers, whose very presence makes our cities and towns livable.

Based on this passage, the earning power in our society:

    1. is subject to staggering inflation.
    2. does not relate to one’s usefulness in society.
    3. is highest among those whose achievements are the greatest.
    4. should be the highest among actors and rock.

    15. Read the statements below and then choose the best answer to the question from the list of lettered choices that

    1. It provides supporting evidence for the first statement.
    2. It restates the central idea of the first sentence.
    3. It draws a conclusion from the first sentence.
    4. It provides a contradictory point of view

Proven Ways To Study And Pass Jamb 2021 In Two Weeks

Do you really want to prepare and pass Jamb in two weeks, the following tips will help you achieve that:

    1. Study with full insight.
    2. Make Use Of Adrenaline.
    3. Don’t Read Big Materials.
    4. Read And Revise.
    5. Use Past Questions

I will now break down the points so that you will get a full understand of the message I am trying to pass across. Trust me, it is going to be very easy for you to understand and apply.

All the points are important, however, number five is the real gist. Do not forget the number five on my list.

    Study With Full Insight

Since Jamb is now very close, you do not need to pay attention to every detail.

As you read, pick out the important points and neglect the rest. This will improve the rate at which you cover topics. Stories in the textbook are to make you feel more comfortable and as well make the text interesting. They do not come out in the exam.

Now you may be asking, what about the recommended novel for Jamb use of English? It is true that the novel contains stories. Do not waste your time reading the Jamb novel. Focus on other subjects and topics.

However, pay more attention to the dates, characters and location in the novel. Questions there will come in the form of where, what, when and how.

During these few days to the exam, do not assume that you know any topic. Ensure that you visit every topic as fast as possible. Do not waste time on any topic. Jot down the key points very fast and go back to them later for better understanding.

    Make Use Of Adrenaline

As the Jamb examination date draws closer, your zeal to read reduces. When it is now finally two weeks to the exam, your zeal to read increases.

Do not waste this sudden increase appetite to read on social media. Go to your closet and read like never before. It is time to spend a high-quality time with your books.

If I may ask, when last did you spend 15 hours straight with your books?

Two weeks to the exam, the power to remember everything you read in the exam hall builds up. You will not forget anything you study easily in this period. Take advantage of this to study as many topics as possible.

Many Jambites are fond of reading and chatting simultaneously. This is not good for you, especially when you have a whole lot to cover within a limited time. Don’t Facebook but Face Your Book.

Have confidence in yourself. There is no way you will fail Jamb. Forget what you hear about Jamb. If I could pass Jamb and gain admission into my school of choice, what makes you think that you cannot do the same?

    Don’t Read Big Materials

The books recommended by Jamb are usually very bulky. You don’t have to study them when the examination is already knocking at your door.

Get textbooks that are straight to the point. There are books you can finish within two days. This doesn’t mean that they are of lower quality. The only thing is that they contain only the relevant points.

An example of such a textbook is QUICK REVIEW IN CHEMISTRY. You can actually finish the book in two days and score 90+ in Jamb chemistry. There are such simplified books for every subject.

If you have a sound background in English, nothing should stop you from passing Jamb use of English.

Comprehension may want to take your time, but I have dealt with how to answer jamb comprehension passages in 10 minutes. Click here to read my famous article on Jamb reading comprehension.

    Read And Revise

This point is very easy. Read and go over it after some time. As the name implies, ensure to put down very important points as you study.

Then try to revise all the points when it is two days to the exam. This is to ensure that you don’t struggle to remember in the exam hall. The Rhema just flows without stress.

It is possible that you may not really understand some ideas passed in the topic. Revision gives you a better understanding.
Revision is very effective and powerful. Do not fail to revise.

    Use Past Questions

Welcome on board. The fastest way to prepare and score very high in Jamb is the use of Jamb past questions. Get the past questions for your four Jamb subjects and study along with them.

Start solving past questions from the year 2005. Make sure you solve and understand everything. You should be able to solve and understand 8 years past questions within a week and two days.

Consult Google or your textbook for any question that is not clear. This is funny,  but you will have to cram what refuses to enter. Generally, you don’t have to cram past questions.

Try as much as possible to get the full picture. As simple as this may be, it is capable of making you score 350+. Follow these guidelines and you will surely come back to testify. Mark my words.

Note: You don’t only study Jamb past questions because it would be repeated word-for-word. You study past questions so as to operate at the same frequency with Jamb. That’s to say, it makes you attain Jamb standard and no question surprises you in the hall.

Contrary to what you may think, ABUAD post utme questions are usually very simple. The only problem you may encounter while writing the ABUAD exam is the time factor. There is usually no time to check the time (Usually an hour for 70 to 90 questions)…

ABUAD English questions have been traced to Dandy English and waec English. If you are able to study your waec pack and Dandy English very well, then you should not have any problem with the Afe Babalola University Use of English post utme examination live questions. Comprehension passages could also be adapted from other sources.

Apart from English, the three or four other subjects the Afe Babalola University set in post utme are tagged general subjects and they carry less than 15 questions each.

Does Afe Babalola University Set Current Affairs?

What do you mean by four others? Yeah, Afe Babalola University sometimes set current affairs questions in addition to your Jamb subjects combination. However, they have not done this for a few years now.

The Three Problems In ABUAD Post UTME

Candidates fail the ABUAD post utme examination yearly due to three major factors. You need to understand and overcome the factors that I am about to share right away.

The first factor is the time factor. Like I explained above, the number of questions ABUAD set in post utme is 70 to 90. Every student offering calculation subjects will have issues attempting 90 questions in just one hour. The Use of English carries the lions share in ABUAD post utme.

The second factor that makes candidates fail ABUAD post utme is the calculator factor. You are not allowed to take a calculator to the exam hall. Trust me, solving decimals and fractions without a calculator takes time.

The third issue is the time to prepare. The period between ABUAD post utme registration and examination is very short (usually two weeks). Only the strong will survive.

How To Prepare For ABUAD Post Utme

You may be asking, how then do I prepare and pass ABUAD post utme examination in two weeks or less? Be happy because your question has been answered. I have written a detailed article on that. You want to go through it now Click.
